Year 12 A Level Music groups, ‘2Sounds’ and ‘Odd Souls’ performed a variety of song covers on stage in the College’s Daphne Collman Auditorium to an enraptured audience of family and friends earlier this month.
As part of their course criteria, the two bands are required to perform regularly throughout the two years of study; this most recent gig was only the second time the groups have performed as fully-formed bands.
‘2Sounds’, a band comprising five visiting international students studying at the College for one year (Lukas Beringer, Zainab Celik, Michela Naef, Vincenzon Magliarisi and Eduardo Parnio), performed a commanding set, including a rendition of the late Avicii’s hit ‘Wake Me Up’ which was met with huge applause.
The second band, ‘Odd Souls’, featuring A Level students Caitlin Johnson, Millie Cutler, Grace Jacobs, Mia Kenny and Izzy Warren, entertained the crowd with hits including ‘Biology’ by Girls Aloud and ‘Higher Ground’ by Stevie Wonder.
“It was great experience to perform together as a band.” vocalist with ‘Odd Souls’, Grace Jacobs explains, “It’s only the second time we have played publicly as ‘Odd Souls’ and already we can see how we have grown and come together as a group. It was amazing to share the evening with ‘2Sounds’; we all support each other in our music and they had just as much fun as we did.”
Team Leader of Music and Performing Arts, Rob Wilkinson, said: “Both bands took the opportunity to really shine and show off their considerable musical talent in front of a brilliant and engaged audience. The level of performance and musicality was on another level. I can honestly say it was the best piece of music performance I have seen at my time at Newton Abbot College.”
