Students from all years at Newton Abbot College took to the stage in the Daphne Collman Auditorium on Thursday 13 December to perform a range of Christmas number one hits in the widely anticipated concert, ‘A Night Before Christmas’.
Moving away from the more traditional Christmas concert format, students took inspiration from decades of number one chart hits, recreating them in their own inimitable styles. Audiences were treated to a huge variety of musical genres, including hits such as ‘2 Become 1’ by the Spice Girls, performed by the Ukulele Band, ‘Don’t You Want Me’ by The Human League performed by the Year 13 Performing Arts students and ‘Killing in the Name’ by Rage Against the Machine, performed by Rock Orchestral Group, ‘Rochester’.
The concert covered music spanning over 7 decades and was enjoyed by a sold-out audience of staff, friends and family.
Team Leader of Music and Performing Arts, Rob Wilkinson, said: “It is always a magical time of year at Newton Abbot College and our students did themselves proud bringing Christmas alive on stage. The huge range of styles and genres really showcased our students’ huge array of talents. They all deserve to be on Father Christmas’ good list this year!”
