Award winning golf professional delivers leadership master class
Newton Abbot College students were treated to a master class in young golf leadership by award winning golf professional, Mike Cayless.
A group of students from Years 7, 8 and 9 were trained in order to be able to deliver Tri-Golf and Super 6s competitions in the coming weeks. Tri-Golf is a highly popular initiative for primary age children that has been developed to allow young people the chance to learn the basics of golf with specially adapted equipment.
Mr Cayless, who won the Critchley Award for the most successful link between schools and PGA Golf Professionals in the UK in 2015, was impressed with the students: “All the students at Newton Abbot College have been brilliant. Golf is a game for everyone; whether getting involved in a team or individual capacity. Tri-Golf is fantastic for younger players and we hope to get more involved in the game. It is fantastic to be able to start at this grassroots level.”
Year 7 student and young golf leader, Ewan Bedford, had an amazing day: “It has been really great fun learning all these different games and how to help lead younger students. I really like the fact that we are going to be able to help younger people become more sporty through Tri-Golf tournaments in the near future!”
