Newton Abbot College hosted its annual Awards Evening recognising student talent and achievement on Tuesday 10 October.
The ceremony, carried out in front of a packed audience in the College’s theatre, the Daphne Collman Auditorium, looked to recognise the top academic performers from the previous College year in a highly anticipated event in the College calendar.
As well as academic prowess in the classroom environment, students received awards recognising efforts in charity fundraising, most impressive start in Year 7 and community awards. The coveted Principal’s Prize was awarded to Year 11 House Captain and Prefect, Libby Evans.
Principal Paul Cornish and event organiser and Assistant Principal, Lesley Ring, were joined by education lawyer, Laura Partridge, from Michelmores Law Firm, who presented the prizes. An emotive key note speech by Mr Cornish and a performance by some of the College’s talented musicians rounded off the evening of celebration and recognition.
Assistant Principal, Lesley Ring, explains the importance of such events in the College’s calendar: “We ask students at the College to ‘Imagine what’s possible…’ in life and striving to win a College award is, for many students, a great place to start! Each term we award students for effort and improvement in special awards assemblies but the November Awards Evening is ‘the big one’ as it is our celebration for students who are ‘Best in Subject’ and for top achievers in all other aspects of College life – for example the Gold Stars are awarded to the crème de la crème Prefects! It was lovely to see parents, staff and students taking such pride in everything that had been achieved!”
