The College's Year 9 badminton players have secured bronze in the U14 County Badminton Championships held at Paignton Community and Sports Academy on Wednesday 24 January.
The four talented players, Matty Burgin, George Hillard, Zak-Ray Linley-Moss and Harry Powney, played both individual and doubles matches in the round-robin competition, securing third place after winning four of their seven matches.
The young team had a vast range of match experience. George Hillard made his debut appearance for the College on court, playing alongside the more experienced Zak-Ray Linley-Moss who regularly competes at both county and national level and is currently ranked number nine in the country.
County champions, Chulmleigh Community College, will progress to the national finals due to be held in Bournemouth later in the year.
Physical Education Support Assistant, Chantal Greep, said of the achievement: “This was an incredibly positive result from this group of young players. To have achieved bronze with a team that had a player making his debut appearance for the College was such a brilliant achievement. This team shows great promise and we are looking forward to seeing what they can do in the future.”
