Baking Stars Shine for Charity Challenge

The College's students have been showcasing their baking skills as part of ‘The Great Newton Abbot College Bake Off’ charity event.

Organised by Newton House tutor group, N7, the ‘Bake Off’ encouraged students from all year groups to create their most lavish cake creations to be tasted, critiqued and marked by a panel of student judges.

Entries ranged from ‘Alice in Wonderland’ cakes, to unicorn bakes, beach themes to detailed chocolate work. Following an intense judging process, Year 10 student, Jazmin Atkinson, was declared the winner, with Year 7 Ellis Murphy coming second and Year 8 Anthony Ward coming in third place. All three students received donated prizes from local business that ranged from personalised aprons and cookware, to coffee vouchers and recipe books. Following the competition, the remaining cake was sold to students, raising £38.02 for the College’s chosen charity, Place2Be.

Event organiser and N7 tutor, Lucie Clark, said of the day: “It was fantastic to organise such a fun event that brought all of our students together. Being able to see the students’ creativity outside of the classroom was wonderful…and eye-opening! I was extremely proud of them all and it was a great chance to raise money for such a brilliant charity as Place2Be.”
