The College’s Sixth Form Hair and Beauty students are celebrating following the success of their annual fundraising day at the end of May.
Staff and members of the public were treated to a range of treatments, facials, waxing, cutting, blow drying and styling throughout the day on 25 May, raising an incredible £354.20 for the College’s chosen charity, Torbay Special Care Baby Unit. The Hair and Beauty students also organised a raffle and a ‘Newton Abbot College Bake Off’ competition to help raise further funds.
The event is enjoyed by the students involved, as Year 13’s, Lucy Patey, explains: “It is always great fun working with different clients on the charity day. It is great to meet and give treatments to so many different people and personalities. Contact with members of the public is an invaluable way for us as students to build the confidence we will need going into the hair and beauty industry in the future. What’s even better is that we get to make a real difference to families using Torbay’s Special Care Baby Unit whilst doing it!”
Event organiser and Beauty Trainer/Assessor, Anita Brown, was extremely pleased with the day; “We are always thrilled to see students coming together for such a worthwhile and meaningful day. Our fantastic students were a real credit to the College, performing in a professional manner throughout the day, delivering quality treatments to all their clients. The charity fundraising day has become a real highlight in the College calendar and we are proud both as a Sixth Form and a College as a whole to be contributing to a local charity in such a positive way.”
