You may be aware that the Education Secretary and Prime Minister announced this afternoon at 17:15 that schools in England will close to the majority of students from the end of the school day on Friday 20th March until further notice.
At Newton Abbot College we intend to continue as normal (or as near as) until that time. We will assess each morning whether the level of staffing is sufficient to fully open or to only open to particular year groups. May I remind you that the best way to find out about partial/full closure is via the college website.
In their announcements, the Education Secretary and Prime Minister both stated that schools will be required to stay open from Monday to certain groups of students:
• Children of key workers
• Vulnerable children e.g. those with social workers
• Children with EHCPs
At this moment I do not have any specific details about what constitutes ‘key’ workers or the arrangements that will be made for their children and those children who are considered to be vulnerable. I am sure that this will become clearer from central and local government over the coming hours and I will update you as soon as possible.
To reiterate, as I leave the College this evening there is no reason why tomorrow will not be as normal a day as possible for all staff and students who are able to attend. I look forward to seeing them.
Thank you for your ongoing support at this truly testing time and please take care of each other.
