Year 7 student, Daniel Coles, captained Torquay Rugby Club U12s to a definitive win against Old Richians away in Gloucester on Sunday 15 May.
The forward and second row player steered his team to a nine try victory over their opponents, having scored an impressive seven tries himself in training earlier in the week.
The keen sportsman will be taking his prowess on the sporting field on tour to Japan in the summer of 2019. The Torquay club will be partnered with Japanese schools to compete internationally, as well as attending World Cup matches and immersing themselves in cultural life.
Daniel said of the win and the upcoming trip: “It was a great result for the team; we all support each other whether we win or not, which is great. I am extremely excited to go to Japan next year; it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and we are hard at work fundraising for the trip. I can’t wait!”
Head of Physical Education at Newton Abbot College and Plymouth Albion player, Jamie Salter, said: “It is always very encouraging to hear about our students’ achievements outside of the College. We are looking forward to seeing what Daniel has to offer on the field in the coming years and we wish him all the very best for his exciting overseas trip next year.”
