The U14 Netball team have been crowned Devon Champions at the recent National Schools Competition held at Cranbook Education Centre.
The talented team faced strong opposition in their group stage. Despite this, the young sportswomen delivered strong scores over all of their opponents, winning against Devonport High School for Girls 11-1, Braunton Academy 13-5, The Maynard School 9-8 and Uffculme School 12-7.
With the cumulative scores collated, the team entered the semi-finals in first position, where they faced Ivybridge Community College, the runners up from the other group stage. Newton Abbot College dominated from the start, taking a strong lead and finishing convincing 16-3 win.
The finals saw the team facing The Maynard School, who they narrowly beat in the group stage. A very close first half saw Newton Abbot College leading 7-4. Despite incredibly stiff opposition, the College team remained focussed and strong in attack, delivering a final score of 12-10 and securing the County Championship. Their win will see them progress to the Regional Championships in January.
Member of Newton Abbot College Physical Education Department, Chantal Greep, said: “This is such an amazing achievement for these talented young sportswomen. This is the best result we have ever had and delivering such a great result against such strong opposition was just fantastic. This brilliant team is made up of dedicated, talented and hardworking students who are really committed to the game of netball. We are thoroughly looking forward to representing Devon in the Regional stage of the competition and I am excited to see how far these talented young women can go.”
