College reaches under 15 handball finals

Handball Team

Newton Abbot College under 15s handball team recently made a trip to Kingsley College in Bideford for the County Handball championships. Our team had a difficult start against Holsworthy College from Bude whose players looked sharp and were strong on attack; however our strategic approach brought us out on top with a 2-1 win. Games two and three saw us dominate Torquay Academy and West Exe College with high scoring wins. The final game was against our hosts and current champions, Kingsley College.  With an excellent performance from Tommy D’Cruz we defended well, unfortunately the hosts were too strong and finished the game worthy winners 8-3. Sam Nelson-Smith, Teacher of PE said: “The boys had only played handball in their Invasion PE lessons and attended one training session after college.  Throughout the competition the other schools had clubs and external coaches to assist their training. This just goes to show the natural sporting talent we have at Newton Abbot College.  We are extremely proud of how well they performed.”
