A team of Newton Abbot College’s A-Level students from the Business and Mathematics departments took part in the annual ICAEW Business Accounting and Skills Education competition in Exeter on 25 November 2015.
BASE is ICAEW’s National Business and Accounting competition for students in school or college aged 16-19. The Exeter heat – one of 50 held nationwide during the academic year - saw a host of schools and colleges from the region compete in a business simulation task designed to test their ability to make innovative recommendations to a panel of judges. Leading accountancy firms supported the day by providing mentoring services for each team. Whilst the team from Newton Abbot College presented an extremely compelling and professional case to the judges, it was Colyton Grammar School who ultimately triumphed on the day.
Amber Mold described the experience as “Amazing. Pitching our proposals in front of an audience of business professionals was nerve-wracking but we were confident in our analysis and our understanding of the market we investigated so we’re certainly not disappointed with our performance. I would love to give it another go next year.”
