Colleges outstanding success at teignbridge council 2015 sports personality awards
Newton Abbot College students triumphed at the Teignbridge Council Sports Awards evening held at the Langstone Cliff Hotel on 4 December. The awards look to celebrate individual sporting success as well as community projects throughout the local area. Four Newton Abbot College students were nominated in an incredible three categories; a remarkable achievement, given the extremely high standards and competition faced from across the region.
Year 9 student, Billy Green, came second in the prestigious Junior Sportsman of the Year following his incredible sixth win at the British Motorbike Trials in 2015. Miah Butterfield secured the win for the Outstanding Achievement for a Person with a Physical / Learning Disability and both Holly Flory and Megan Johns won the highly prized Young Persons Services to Physical Education and Sport award for their work in community sports.
PE Teacher, Ian Patchett, was thrilled with the success: ‘For these individuals to be recognised at such a high level is fantastic both for our students and for Newton Abbot College as a whole; the College prides itself in the encouragement and support given to all students for their sporting endeavours both inside and outside the College environment. We could not be more proud of these individual achievements and the effort that has been shown by these young students in the sporting arena.”
