The College’s U14 Futsal Teams have celebrated the end of the year by qualifying for the Devon County Finals.
Competing in the South Devon Futsal Competition, both girls and boys teams travelled to Paignton Community Sports Centre at the end of November to compete against other schools and colleges from the South Devon and Torbay areas.
The girls faced stiff competition from their round robin matches, playing against Coombeshead Academy, Paignton Community and Sports Academy, Churston Grammar, St Cuthburt Mayne and Torquay Academy. Despite some incredible play by the opposing teams, the girls won every match, securing a first place competition ranking and qualification to county level.
The boys team progressed through their group competition, reaching the semi-finals against Churston Grammar. Their nail-biting match saw them 3-1 down before rallying to secure a 4-3 victory in the last ten seconds. Despite losing to Torquay Boys Grammar School in the final, the team have still qualified to join the girls team to represent the area in the County Finals.
The results reflect the strong sporting talent seen at Newton Abbot College; talent that will be nurtured, as Physical Education Support Assistant, Chantal Greep, explains: “We could not be prouder of both teams for such an amazing result. Both teams are showing incredible talent and future promise. We will be working with them to capitalise on their success and we are looking forward to see how well they perform on a different platform at county level.”
