Newton Abbot College’s Year 10 football team have become South Devon Cup champions following a tense match against Torquay Boys’ Grammar School in late May.
The match was the culmination of a hugely successful season for the team that saw their winning streak continue; despite strong opposition, the players showed outstanding teamwork throughout the match, as well as moments of individual brilliance. At the final whistle, the College team kept a clean sheet, with a convincing score of 3-0.
‘Man of the Match’ was awarded to Ben Hopkins, whose outstanding individual performance saw him score two of the three goals. Neo James provided the other goal, scoring from the edge of the box in a thrilling finish.
Team Coach and Teacher of Physical Education, Mike Dicks, said: “I am thrilled for the boys. It was a tough game against strong opposition, but they created the perfect storm of outstanding team effort, tactical unity and excellent individual performance that, ultimately, saw them to a well-deserved victory.”
