Devon Winter Games

Students from Newton Abbot College recently took part in the Devon Winter School Games at Exeter Sports Park.  Over 1,000 students from across Devon took part in the games which involved a wide range of sporting activities including netball, rugby and hockey.  Our U13 Girls (A and B) and U13 Boys (A) volleyball teams qualified for the games through the South Devon Tournament. The games were opened by Zara Dampney from Team GB’s beach volleyball team.  Zara represented Team GB in the women’s beach volleyball competition at the London 2012 Olympics.  She joined this event to inspire and support the young athletes and spoke to many of our students. Alice Patten, a Year 7 student at Newton Abbot College, said “I really enjoyed meeting Zara, the Olympian volleyball player, and playing against the other schools was competitive but fun!”. Ryan Symons and Lewis Jordain-Garner both felt it was a great experience to be involved in and said they “enjoyed learning and developing new skills”.
