Months of hard work and preparation culminated in twenty one Newton Abbot College students undertaking their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition over the weekend of 19th and 20th September. Three groups of students relied on their well-honed skills to navigate from Trenchford Reservoir and Lustleigh to Bickington, walk 10 miles both days, carry all of their equipment, cook and camp independently and complete the journey back to the College on Sunday 20th.
All students passed the expedition, with Lucy Atkins, Duke of Edinburgh Assessor overseeing progress ‘The teams were excellent, and certainly great ambassadors for Newton Abbot College and role models for their younger peers.’
Geography Teacher, Mr Sam Groves added ‘The students demonstrated fantastic teamwork and they put all the skills they have learned over the last few months to great use. They should be incredibly proud of themselves and we look forward to the completion of the Bronze Award in the coming months.’
