The award is given in recognition of an individual who has achieved local, regional or national success within their sport. Emily is an accomplished athlete, both on the athletics field and on the netball court; she is currently ranked fifteenth in the country in the Triple Jump and holds County Athletic titles for the Triple Jump, Long Jump, 300m and Hurdles. Emily is also the regional netball captain and has recently been selected for the Seven Stars U17 Nova Netball Academy, firmly placing her on the England pathway in the team sport.

Emily was joined at the virtual ceremony, held on December 22, by another Newton Abbot College student at the awards; Year 13, Charlie Ryder, was also nominated in the same category for his outstanding success in the boxing ring.

Team Leader of Physical Education, Jamie Salter, said of Emily’s success: “It is true testament to Emily as an athlete and a young person that she is able to committedly train and compete in two sporting disciplines at such a high level, whilst still maintaining an excellent academic record. She is a true role model to those around her in our College community and we, as a department, are very proud of all she is achieving.”
