Year 9 athlete, Emily Churchill, travelled to Exeter Arena in May to compete in the Devon County Track and Field Championships.
Emily, a talented member of Exeter Harriers Athletics Club, competed in the long jump, triple jump and U15 Girls 300m race against a host of other athletes.
Despite facing stiff competition, Emily won all three events to become the new Devon County Champion; her track event saw her clock an impressive time of 44.73 seconds in her 300m event, beating the athlete in second place by nearly a second. The long jump event saw her winning by just 2cm, with a jump of 4.86m. Her third win in the triple jump was definitive, beating second place by nearly half a metre.
Following her incredible success, Emily has now secured a place on the Devon Track and Field Team. College Teacher of Physical Education, Charlotte Tonge, said of the achievement: “All the staff in the department are extremely proud of Emily’s achievements; she is going from strength to strength and we look forward to seeing her progress at higher levels. She is an inspiration to her peers and younger students within College, displaying commitment to both her school netball team and sports outside of school.”
