Year 9 athlete, Emily Churchill, has been crowned U15 Long and Triple Jump victor at the Devon County Championships at the end of November.
Fourteen year old Emily, who is a new member of Exeter Harriers Athletics Club, travelled to Dawlish Leisure Centre to compete against 30 other competitors in each discipline. Both long and triple jump events were standing jumps; Emily comprehensively took both titles with a triple jump length of 7m 7cms and a long jump length of 2m 28cm, beating competitors in higher years.
Following her wins, Emily has been selected for the Devon Team and will be participating in competitions throughout the season that could lead to UK final representation.
Emily said of her wins: “I am really happy to have won both events. The Exeter Harriers are really bringing me on as an athlete and my aim is to get to English Schools this year as an individual for both the long and triple jump.”
College Teacher of Physical Education, Charlotte Tonge, said ‘It is fantastic to hear that Emily is both competing and winning at such a high level. She is an asset to the College and the PE Department and is incredibly talented in both netball and athletics; I am sure that she will go far!’
