Exciting times

The new academic year has seen not only the arrival of the new Principal at Newton Abbot College but also a newly elected Chair of Governors. The new man in the chair, Steve Joint, made the following statement, "We are genuinely delighted to have appointed Paul Cornish as Principal of Newton Abbot College. We look forward to working with and supporting him in the College’s endeavour to be outstanding in all we do. Paul has been warmly welcomed by the governors, staff and students; he has already made a huge impression with his enthusiasm for learning, which is inspirational.

Our fantastic examination results this summer are a reflection of their leadership. We would like to thank the staff for all their continued hard work. We also congratulate the students on their achievements, and wish them all the very best in the future." Moving forward, the Governing Body has also announced to staff and parents the decision to withdraw its application to join the Templer Academy Schools Trust. As an independent college providing excellent education for 11-19 year olds, the College and Governors remain committed to existing collaborative relationships with the schools in the Newton Abbot Learning Community and the other secondary schools in the surrounding area. It was felt, however, that the time is not right for the College to join a multi-academy trust. Finally, the Governing Body is proud to announce that the students and staff of the College raised a magnificent total of over £10,000 in the academic year 2013-14 for their chosen charity Rowcroft Hospice; the students are currently voting on their choice of charity for this academic year.
