Newton Abbot College’s Year 12 Music student, Lois Harris, has reached the regional finals of UK-wide performance competition, TeenStar.
TeenStar is the UK’s biggest search for teenage and pre-teen singing and dance acts, with prizes and opportunities for those teens serious about developing their talent. The overall winner of the competition will win recording studio time to complete an album, a single release and accompanying music video.
Following her successful application before Christmas, Lois was invited to Bristol on 26 February to audition in front of industry professionals and judges. Performing with over one hundred other contestants, Lois sang a two-minute rendition of One Republic’s ‘Let’s Hurt Tonight’. Judging the 16-19 age group category was freelance music consultant, Chris Grayston, who develops aspiring singers for signing with major record labels. He is also a scout for Sony, BBC, Thames TV, Syco Entertainment, ITV and ‘The Voice’.
Lois successfully impressed the judges so much that she will once again travel to Bristol on 1 April to perform in front of a live audience and panel of judges who will vote to choose their favourite acts to proceed to the finals.
Lois was very excited with the result: “I am absolutely buzzing from the auditions. I was really shocked to get through as the other performers in my group were so amazing….but I am really excited to have the opportunity to see what I can achieve in the next round!”
The College’s Team Leader of Music, Rob Wilkinson, was thrilled for the talented musician: “It may have been a shock to Lois to get through to the regional finals of TeenStar, but it certainly wasn’t for us as a Music Department, or as a College as a whole. Lois’ boundless talent is evident every time she performs and she will do nothing but a fantastic job in April. We couldn’t be prouder of her and she is definitely one to watch in the future.”
