At the beginning of the Spring Term over twenty Year 5 & 6 primary school pupils took part in a gifted and talented session at Newton Abbot College. The session was led by School Sport Partnership badminton coach Zoe Hills, who put the pupils through a range of techincal, tactical and game related activities.
In addition, the pupils also learnt many of the fundamental movement skills that are used for success in badminton. The activities the pupils took part in had a strong emphasis on decision making in a pupil-led environment. There were also three Newton Abbot College students on hand to give additional advice and key information to help the younger pupils.
Ian Patchett, Teacher of PE said: “It is great that we can offer primary school pupils within our Learning Community a chance to experience sports that they previosly may not have had a chance to take part in. The standard of the pupils’ play was very encouraging and their enthusiasm to learn and improve was infectious.”
