New Head of Sixth Form at Newton Abbot College, Sam Grierson, is delighted with the first set of A Level results under her leadership.
Having taken up post in January of this academic year, Sam quickly made her mark and raised the expectations and standards in what was already a highly successful Sixth Form. Sam was quick to pass the credit for the success to the students and staff at the college: “I am so very proud of everyone who has played a part in the successes achieved by the students this summer.” she said, “The staff, parents and of course the students have all worked incredibly hard and it has clearly paid off.”
The pass rate has gone up to 99% for Level 3 courses this summer (97% 2016 and 96% 2015) with more than half of all qualifications achieved at the very highest grades of A*-B.
Stand out individual performances came from Bijay Bhatta, Amber Mold and Lauren Stent. Bijay achieving straight A* grades in what are commonly accepted to be three of the toughest A levels: Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Amber and Lauren will be equally elated with four outstanding grades each. Amber gaining double Distinction* for Physical Education and A grades in both Geography and Business Studies and Lauren’s achievements being: Psychology A*; Geography A*; Biology A and Chemistry B.
High levels of success were also achieved by Libby Collins (A*,A,B); Megan Selley (Dist*,B,B); Melis Blackford (Dist*, B, B); Bryony Follete-Hardstaff (A,B,B) and Mya Sim-Jones (A,B,B).
Principal at the College, Paul Cornish, expressed his delight when he said: “Today’s results are by far the best the College has known during my three years at the helm, and are probably the best in the College’s history. I have been blown away by the hard work and dedication of the students in this particular year group. The Sixth Form at the College have had such a brilliant year in the widest possible sense and the examination results are the icing on the cake.”
I am just so happy and the results are a great weight off my shoulders. I revised really hard for these exams and my grades have ensured my place in a five-year management apprenticeship. The teachers at Newton Abbot College have been amazing; it has been the best seven years ever!Amber Mold, Year 13
