Mandi rides the night for cancer

Our very own member of staff, Mandi Grant, took her bike and travelled to London recently to take part in the ‘Women V Cancer – Ride the Night’ event to raise money for charity.

Joining hundreds of other women at Lee Valley Velopark, Mandi and her cycling partner, Alice Hamilton, set off on the 100km route through London after dark. Pedalling past sights including the London Eye, Westminster Abbey and the Tate Modern, the duo completed the challenge in just five hours and eight minutes.

Mandi is no stranger to charity events; this is her second ‘Ride the Night’ event in three years and she also recently participated in a bike ride raising money for children with chronic illnesses in the local area.

Her incredible efforts saw her raise an impressive £410 for three main charities; Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action. “The event itself was great fun.” Mandi explains: “Extreme weather conditions two years ago meant that the route was a lot harder to navigate, so it felt much easier this time around as there was none of that to compete with. Raising money to help people with cancer is a subject close to my heart; there have been people in my life who have been affected by it. It is a great way to give back and to try and make a difference to someone’s life, however small.”
