Marathon sees Fundraising Efforts off to a Flying Start

Newton Abbot College Team Leader of Modern Languages made sure the College’s fundraising efforts for the academic year hit the ground running following her completion of the Bournemouth Marathon on Sunday 7 October.

Staff member Hannah Brown ran the coastal marathon in perfect weather, completing the distance in an impressive time of 4 hours 27 minutes. Her incredible efforts saw her raise £614.25 for the College’s chosen charity for the academic year, Place2Be, the nation’s leading children’s mental health charity. A further £26 was raised in Hannah’s tutor group following a ‘guess the marathon time’ competition that was won by Year 11 student, Sam Bovey.

Hannah’s achievement was not without perseverance and determination: “I am really pleased to have completed the marathon. It wasn’t without difficult moments; miles 20-24 were incredibly tough mentally despite the beautiful weather and coastal route. I wanted to run the marathon to raise money for the College’s chosen charity, Place2Be, but also to show our students that if you set your mind to something and commit to it, you can achieve anything. I am extremely proud that the College has chosen Place2Be as the charity for the year; it is important that mental health issues in our young people are destigmatised and proper support can be accessed quickly and easily. This total is just the beginning of another fantastic fundraising year for Newton Abbot College.”
