Mathematics in Construction

A group of Year 10 students expressed an interest in Construction and Engineering careers.  James Musgrove, Teacher of Mathematics, therefore contacted the GallifordTry training school and press office to arrange a visit to their local site office in Kingskerswell. Mark Mullen, the Training Manager in charge of staff development and apprenticeships, took our 15 students on a guided tour of the site.  Once back at the site office they were given an update on the current works and then had the opportunity to meet with one of the Site Engineers, Quantity Surveyors and Costing Clerks.  The students found out all about their respective roles and discussed how they had got to this stage in their careers and, of course, how they apply Mathematics in their everyday work.  The tour then continued and the students were able to view the current activities taking place at Maddacombe. They met with a variety of staff who described their roles and how they apply Mathematics day-to-day.”
