Matilda the musical

Barely a week has passed since the start of term but already Year 7 Performing Arts students at Newton Abbot College have thrown themselves into work based on Roald Dahl’s genius, Matilda the Musical. Working with Sarah Smith, Teacher of Performing Arts, the students have shown enthusiasm learning the punchy choreography and have demonstrated how they can become the characters of ‘Revolting Children’ with focus flair and creativity.  Using a combination of dance, drama and voice, they have explored the themes of anti-bullying, courage and imagination. If they put their minds to it, they can achieve their aspirations, for as Roald Dahl comments in Matilda “So Matilda’s strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone.”
