National president of nasuwt union pays college a visit
Newton Abbot College was pleased to welcome National President of NASUWT Union and teacher from Cornwall, Kathy Wallis, on 11 January.
The College’s Principal, Paul Cornish, welcomed the President with an extensive tour of the College, followed by discussions regarding government changes in funding policies and the impact that could have in schools and colleges across Devon. The visit also gave College teachers the chance to meet with Ms Wallis to ask any questions or discuss issues.
Ms Wallis was extremely impressed with the College as a whole: “It was wonderful to come back to the area and see how it has changed and turned itself around. The quality and standard of students’ work is some of the best I have seen anywhere. The atmosphere of the College is amazing; staff and College Leadership must be congratulated for taking the school forward.”
Principal Cornish was equally thrilled with the visit: “Newton Abbot College was pleased to host a visit from the National President of the NASUWT. We value our relationship with all the teaching unions and communicate with them regularly regarding a whole variety of issues. We believe it is a relationship that serves both parties and enables us to prioritise staff and student well-being, which in turn leads to greater job satisfaction and work-life balance for staff and greater happiness, outcomes and life chances for young people. Kathy was incredibly positive and complimentary about what she observed on her visit and it was good to get her view on a few local and national issues currently faced by schools.”
