National schools silver for college badminton stars
The College’s Under 14 boys badminton team are celebrating following their silver medal win at the second round of the National Schools Badminton Competition held at Paignton Community and Sports Academy on 1 February.
The team, comprising Year 8 students, George Hilliard and Zak-Ray Linley-Moss and Year 9 students, Joan Marc Benitez Perez and Oscar Graeme had already secured an overall win in the qualifying round held at Seal Hayne on 25 January.
Facing stiff competition from other schools and colleges in the area, including Chulmleigh Community College and The King’s School in Ottery St Mary, the team did incredibly well to win five out of their six games. Most notably, Zak-Ray Linley-Moss came away from the day without losing a single match. At the end of the competition, the team were thrilled to come in second place.
PE Support Assistant, Chantal Greep, was thrilled with the result: “The team showed real grit and determination throughout the course of the competition and I couldn’t be prouder of them all. During all of their games, they displayed a real sense of sportsmanship that made them all winners. Their silver medal win was a fantastic result for a group of great young sportsmen and I look forward to see what they can achieve in future competitions.”
