New badge helps support forces students

Students who come from forces families have received new lapel badges to help encourage recognition and support of their experience of life in the Forces within the College community.

The group of students have been meeting once a term for the last year to share their experiences, get to know one another and make new friends who have a similar background. Following the success of the scheme, the students have designed a new forces badge that sees the College’s logo tree book ‘leaves’ replaced with poppies to differentiate between students whose families are not in the forces.

Year 8 student, Freddy Walker, said “We have only been wearing the badges for a few days, but I have already been asked about it and what it means. Being able to explain a bit about life in a Forces family is really good; a lot of people don’t realise how hard it can be moving around a lot and not seeing your parents regularly. The group is a great way for new students from Forces backgrounds to make friends quickly and know that they have people who understand what they are going through.”
