A project aimed at helping families across the Teignbridge area to get extra resources to help with food provision over the summer holidays has been set up in a new partnership move.
‘No Hungry Holidays’ has been created by THAT Foodbank, The Buckland Centre, Buckland Support Group, Teignbridge CAB, ASDA, Teign Housing, Haytor View Primary School and the local churches in Newton Abbot. The scheme has been set up to help families who would normally receive free school meals during term time, as well as families who are on low incomes who may struggle during the six-week break.
Parents and carers who would benefit from the scheme (which runs from Friday 19 July to 2 September) are encouraged to contact Yvonne at Buckland Surgery, The Buckland Centre, THAT Foodbank, local Children Centre Workers, the College office or your Health visitor to get a referral. One referral at the start of the holidays will cover the entire break.
Once a referral has been received, THAT Foodbank will prepare a food box suitable for the size of family involved which can be collected from THAT, left at a local Community Centre or delivered in private, unmarked vehicles.
The scheme encourages all parents and carers to get in touch to receive any help they need.
