Ofsted declares all areas good for newton abbot college

The leadership and Governors at Newton Abbot College are celebrating following the publication of their most recent Ofsted inspection, held on 25-26 April 2019.

Following the in-depth, two-day visit, a team of five inspectors gave their firm seal of approval, deeming the College to be ‘Good’ in all areas, ranging from the quality of teaching provided, the personal development behaviour and welfare of its students through to the 16-19 study programmes and outcomes for students.

The inspection was welcomed by College Principal, Paul Cornish, “As a College, we wholeheartedly believed that Newton Abbot College is a good school; but it is reassuring and pleasing that Ofsted have officially agreed and given us their firm seal of approval.  The lead inspector and her team of four further inspectors judged every category of our practice to be ‘good’, adding that this is “…a harmonious school where pupils are thriving”. Newton Abbot College is an 11 – 19 school and I am very pleased that the Ofsted inspection celebrates not only our achievements in years 7 – 11 but the incredible success we have enjoyed in our Sixth Form provision in recent years.  The report acknowledges that achievement and progress at post–16 are significantly above the national average. I would like to thank staff, students and parents for their positivity and support during the inspection.  The outcome is just reward for everybody’s effort and commitment and is to be celebrated by everyone who feels associated with Newton Abbot College. If we are a GOOD school now and are already rapidly improving the few areas for development suggested, then I would like to think that when Ofsted come again in a few years’ time, well…Imagine what’s possible…”
