Run raises important funds for College charity
Staff member, Joni Saunders, completed the Fast Friday 10k run on Friday 14th April to help raise money for the College’s chosen charity for the academic year, Torbay Special Care Baby Unit.
Her efforts on Good Friday, that saw her starting at Exwick and completing two circuits of the Quay area, raised over £200 for the charity. Joni’s decision to participate in the event was, in no small part, due to her own two children needing specialist care in the units following their births.
Her motivations were, as she explains, also based around Newton Abbot College’s ethos: “I found the race really tough and I was so pleased to cross the finish line. Not only does participation in the events raise much needed funds for the charity, but it also shows our students that they can do anything they want if they put their minds to it. I have been thrilled with all the support students have given me in both my tutor groups and the wider student community and it serves to show our young people how important charitable giving is and that their actions can make a real and lasting difference in the community.”
