Ski team enjoy top ten national success

The College’s ski team has been placed as one of the top ten teams in the country following success in the British Indoor Ski Schools Race held at the Indoor Snow Dome in Hemel Hempstead in late September.

The all-female team of three competed in the Under 14 and Under 16 slalom categories against twenty six other school teams from across the country. Sisters Izzy and Jasmine Drew and their teammate, Ellie Brooks, took to the slopes following their incredible third place result at the South West Schools Regional Championships in the summer.

Despite strong opposition, Under 14 competitor, Jasmine, finished an incredible 8th out of 64 entrants. Under 16 teammates, Izzy and Ellie, finished 13th and 26th respectively out of 48 competitors. The overall times and scores saw the team finishing 9th overall, making them one of the most exciting new ski teams in the country.

Teacher of Physical Education and ski team coach, Charlotte Tonge, said: “To have Newton Abbot College finish in the top 10 at a national event is a brilliant achievement. All three girls are racing outside of school and it is fantastic to see how keen they are to not only represent their racing clubs but also Newton Abbot College. On 17 of November we will be entering our biggest ski team ever into the County Championships where we are hoping for further success.”
