Year 8 rising netball star, Sophie Lock, has successfully trialled for Severn Stars U17 Nova Netball Academy, despite being only 13 years of age.
Nominated to trial by her current coach at Teignbridge Titans, Sophie travelled to Gloucester on 11 and 16 December, joining over fifty other hopefuls trying to secure a coveted place. Sophie attended trials a year before she was due to apply, thanks to her incredible talent and goal shooting skills.
Following two days of almost faultless play, Sophie was awarded one of only twenty places in the U17 academy; firmly placing her on the England pathway to a potential place on the national team.
College Teacher of Physical Education, Briony Martin, said “Sophie has been a fantastic asset to the PE Department and her talent shines through in all she does. We are so proud of Sophie and believe that she fully deserves this chance and opportunity at such a young age. Sophie will be training and competing alongside players up to 3 years older than her - but we have no doubt she will be able to hold her own! A real star of the future who is getting a fantastic opportunity to compete in the sport she loves.”
