Year 10 Newton Abbot College student, Sophie Locke, has won silver medals in two events at the Devon League Water Polo finals held at the Plymouth Life Centre.
Sophie, who plays as a wing or driver for Newton Abbot Water Polo Club’s U15 and women’s teams, has been playing in a series of heats that saw them qualify for the finals after beating teams from Paignton and Devonport in the semi-finals.
Sophie, a newcomer to the sport, has only been playing for a little over a year; her first league finals saw her facing strong opposition from teams from Devonport and Exeter in the U15 and Ladies’ finals respectively.
Despite both teams putting in a strong performance, they were unsuccessful in their bid for gold and settled for a well-deserved silver medal.
“I feel really good about winning silver.” Explained Sophie, “I have been swimming for a while and I wanted to do something new with it. Swimming is an individual sport and I wanted to find something that I could do to be part of a team. I have had a great time and have made lots of new friends.”
