Sixty Year 9-13 students from Newton Abbot College travelled to Torquay’s English Riviera Centre to visit business-to-education interactive event, TechBay, on 9 November.
Helping to inspire the Engineers, Scientists and Mathematicians of the future, TechBay brings businesses from all over the South West under one roof to promote the manufacturing industries of the Torbay and South Devon area.

The event delivered a forward-thinking, interactive experience, allowing students to meet with key industry professionals, encouraging their future interest in the areas of manufacturing, engineering and advanced electronics. Representatives from a wide range of companies, including iDreamVR, Princess Yachts and Effect Photonics, showcased the latest technologies available in the market using virtual reality, practical demonstrations and presentations.

Year 10 Design and Technology student, Tom Keight, said of his experience at the event: “TechBay was incredibly interesting. It was fascinating to see how different things are manufactured; meeting lots of professionals was great; it gave me a real flavour of what a career in technology would be like. I am looking forward to taking some of the ideas back into my classes and see where they take my work.”
