Students make a splash at swimming gala

Students from Year 7, 8 and 9 took to the swimming pool on 18 January to take part in the College’s annual swimming gala.

Around two hundred students signed up for the gala, marking the first inter-house competition of the academic year. The hugely popular event saw swimmers compete in a range of different disciplines and heats, demonstrating skills in backstroke, front crawl and breaststroke. Individual performances were accompanied by medley relays including mixed stroke and mixed gender races.

Head of Physical Education, Jamie Salter, said of the event: “It was fantastic to see such a large number of students signing up to take part in such an inclusive house competition. The gala saw swimmers of a range of ages and abilities coming together to contribute towards their house total which was fantastic to see. The atmosphere in the pool was one of healthy competition and real camaraderie; something that sport has a unique ability to bring out in everyone. Thank you to all students who took part so willingly and with such enthusiasm; we will hopefully see even more students signing up next year for such an amazing event!”
