Superb skiing at south west schools regionals

Newton Abbot College students Jamine Drew, Izzy Drew and Ellie Brooks have cemented their reputation as one of the best ski teams in the South West.

Following an impressive fifth place in the county championships, the talented trio travelled to Gloucester Ski Centre to compete in the regional competition earlier in the year. The competition saw the return to full fitness for Izzy Drew after a nasty injury earlier in the season that took her temporarily away from the slopes.

The young athletes took part in the slalom competition that saw them create an overall time after two runs. Each member of the team had incredible results, with Ellie and Jasmine coming first and fourth in the Year 7 & 8 category respectively and Izzy securing third place in the Year 9 & 10 category.

The overall score saw the team finishing in an outstanding third place and they will travel to the national championships in Gloucester and Norwich in October 2019 to compete against the best teams in the country.

College Teacher of Physical Education and Ski Team Coach, Charlotte Tonge said: “This is still such a new team that we were thinking that a top five finish would be beyond anything we could have hoped for. To have come third was just phenomenal. Each team member showed off their natural raw talent, grit and determination. For Izzy’s first competition back after injury, she pulled in some incredible times. We are so excited for the national competitions and to grow as a team in the future.”
