TeenStar Hopeful Lois Triumphs Again

Year 12 Music student, Lois Harris, has reached the South Area Final of the UK’s biggest search for teenage and pre-teen singing and dance acts, TeenStar 2017.

Following her incredible performance in the heats in February, Lois once again travelled to Bristol on 1 April to perform in the regional final stage of the ever-popular competition. Performing One Republic’s ‘Let’s Hurt Tonight’ in front of industry professionals including vocal coach, Mariette Moseley, Jal Galbraith from the Pauline Quirke Academy and Chris Grayston, Head of Future Productions and Music Consultant for Sony, Thames TV and Syco Entertainment, Lois gave an incredible performance impressing both judges and audience members alike.

Out of the thirty acts auditioning, Lois was one of only three people in her category to progress in the competition; and at sixteen years of age, was the youngest. The judges’ comments highlighted Lois’ impressive achievement, describing her as seeming “at home on the stage” and remarking that she “enjoyed herself, which was great to witness.”

The next round of the competition will see Lois travelling to the Beck Theatre in West London for the South Area Finals on 28 May; success in this round will earn her a place in the Grand Finals later in the year.

Lois was thrilled with her performance: “I was totally shocked but extremely happy to get through to the South Area Finals. I just didn’t expect to get this far! I have sung covers so far in the competition, so I will be song writing for the next round to show a different dimension to my performance. I have been really touched by all the support I have had from staff and students at Newton Abbot College following the Bristol round; they have all been so incredibly supportive and encouraging. Music is all I want to do and I am really looking forward to the next round!”

The College’s Team Leader of Music, Rob Wilkinson, was thrilled for the talented musician: “Once again, Lois has shown her phenomenal talent and potential in front of industry professionals. The College is so incredibly proud of her and her achievements in the TeenStar competition. We all have no doubt that Lois has got an amazing career in music ahead of her.”
