Once again Year 11 students from Newton Abbot College headed to the Grand Hotel for their Prom. As is now tradition, many of them arrived at the hotel in style in VW campervans and even an ambulance! Oliver Buckman arrived in a chauffeur driven Porsche whilst Amber Hamilton and friends arrived in a car festooned with balloons which had a picture of Cinderella’s coach and horses draped over one side. Tia Wint arrived with an escort of motorbikes, courtesy of the Knights of Antioch and local bikers.
The Student Support team arranged an awards ceremony for the students, awarding them with a variety of titles all of which had been voted for by the students themselves. The coveted crowns of Prom King and Prom Queen were this year awarded to Joe Boyle and Abigail Wyatt. This was Nicki Carey’s final Prom as the Head of Student Support and Brunel House and she was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers whilst student Abi Joint sang ‘Cups (Pitch Perfect’s When I’m Gone)’.
Nicki Carey said “Our students were, as always, extremely well behaved and celebrated the end of their exams in style. All the staff are very proud of the young adults they have become since joining the College in Year 7 and wish them every success in their future careers.” Tracy Dommett, Head of Curie House, said “Thanks to Nicki for organising the Prom over the last few years, it has always been a fantastic event, well organised and greatly appreciated by all the staff and students. Nicki is going to be greatly missed by everyone at the College and we wish her all the best for the future.”
