Talented young College sportsmen and women let their natural sporting ability shine through at a recent U15 Level 3 Volleyball tournament held at Coombeshead Academy.
Despite little experience in the sport, two teams entered the competition against a host of other local Colleges, including Ivybridge Community College, Braunton Academy and Pilton Community College.
The round-robin heats saw both teams qualify for the knock-out rounds in second place. The boys’ team found themselves against Eggbuckland Community College; after an extremely close match, they lost on the final point of the match to secure a bronze medal for their efforts.
The girls’ team won their bronze medal match against Pilton Community College, going on to face the hugely experienced team from Braunton Academy in the final. Newton Abbot College lead all the way through the game, only to be beaten into silver medal position in the final minute of play.
Member of Newton Abbot College’s Physical Education Department, Chantal Greep said: “The whole tournament was a phenomenal display of natural talent from our young athletes. Their ability to adapt to a new discipline saw them excel in a competition they have never experienced before. To come away with a medal position for each team was testament to their natural sporting ability and we could not have been more pleased or proud of their achievement.”
