Winning Speech has Spooky Feel

Year 12 students Zara Clench, Imogen Bray and Amy Scott have successfully navigated their way to the area finals of the ‘Youth Speaks’ competition.

The competition, organised by the Newton Abbot Rotary Club, sees schools deliver a speech on a chosen topic in a formally timed scenario. They are marked on criteria relating to individual delivery of speeches and their ability to work together as a team.

The College team decided on the topic of ‘The Existence of Ghosts’; Imogen acted as chairperson with Amy delivering the speech. Zara rounded off the entry with the vote of thanks. Their successful entry has now earned them a place at the area finals that will be held in early 2019.

Zara said of the win: “’Youth Speaks’ is a great chance for teenagers to develop their public speaking skills. We are really grateful to the Rotary Club for organising the event and we are looking forward to taking our topic to the area finals in February.”
