This academic year has once again been unusual and many of the ‘normal’ activities that we offer at Newton Abbot College have had to be postponed or cancelled.
Unfortunately, we feel that we have to take the decision to cancel work experience this year for Year 10 and Year 12 students due to the current climate. We have not made this decision lightly; we feel that work experience is a valuable experience but we cannot proceed with it for the following reasons;
• Many places of work are not currently open and many staff are on furlough - so finding a placement will be very difficult;
• Work places might not have returned to normal business in time for the College's work experience week. If businesses are open and trading, they are likely to be dealing with the effects of the pandemic
• Students will have missed classroom time during the pandemic; although teaching has continued, we feel that to disrupt classroom time again would not benefit the students' education;
• We cannot guarantee all students will get a placement in the current climate and logistically we cannot have half a year group out of College while the other half continue with lessons;
We will continue to provide lots of opportunities for careers, advice and guidance during the academic year and there is nothing to stop students accessing work experience during the summer holidays if they wish. Please make sure you check out the Newton Abbot College Careers channel on Teams and if your child wishes to have a careers advice and guidance meeting please email firstname.lastname@example.org
