The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Sports Coaching is intended for students who want to progress directly to employment in an assistant coaching role.
This qualification is also suitable for those wishing to progress to higher education, where students would have the added advantage of using it to obtain part-time employment while studying. This is a career-focused qualification with industry endorsement and accreditation. It enables students to develop underpinning knowledge and technical skills and to gain experience as an assistant coach.
Students must have achieved a minimum of Grade 5 or above in both English Language and Mathematics and Grade 5 (equivalent) in at least 3 other GCSE/Level 2 qualifications. PE or Sport at Grade 4 or Level 2 Pass is also required. Other related GCSE/Level 2 subjects may be considered. Guidance on acceptable related subjects can be provided by the Sixth Form Leadership Team.

This course comprises 100% internally assessed coursework, including practical assessment on leading activities and coaching.
Progression & Careers
Students who have completed this qualification in two years may progress to further learning at Level 3 with additional Level 3 qualifications. The qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers. Learners can progress to higher education on full degree single or combined courses. This course is also suited to students who want to go straight into the coaching profession and several other jobs within the sport and leisure industry.
