The Food and Catering course, available from Year 9 onwards, allows you to develop the skills and knowledge required to prepare high quality food within a home or commercial catering setting. You will get the chance to develop, practice and demonstrate these skills, making a variety of food products.

Develop an understanding of how quality can be achieved, with rigorous quality controls while using materials and equipment efficiently, in relation to cost and environmental impact. Demonstrate safe and hygienic working practices at home and in a commercial environment.
(60% NEA Practical Assessment in College 40% Exam assessment)
Unit 1: Skills Demonstration (30%) Practical Assessment:
- General food preparation skills;
- Cooking skills and methods used in a home and commercial context.
Unit 2: Extended making project (30%)
- You will undertake an extended project that showcases the skills they have developed in unit 1.
Unit 3: External assessment (written exam - 40%)
You will be assessed on the following topics:
- Ingredients and food commodities;
- Planning recipes and menus;
- Food safety and hygiene;
- Food, diet and health;
- Nutrition and food choice.
